MATMEET 10 - CANCELLED

As you can see, Matmeet 10 will happen over the weekend of 26/27 May. We're in West Cornwall for this meet which means From Newquay down.

We'll choose the best day and spot during the week leading up to the weekend. For those travelling, get your campsite bookings in now!!! Word is, many campsites, B&B's, etc are struggling to get bookings so deals may well be available with a spot of haggling.

Use this thread to negotiate car shares/tent shares, etc.

As this is our tenth meet, it might be a nice idea to get some professional photo's taken as we did at Matmeet 5. Obviously the photographer would need paying so if people are up for chipping in a fiver then we should be able to sort that so let us know if you're interested in that idea too.

Also, we could do with some land based filming so if anyone has a friend/partner/spouse/parent/child with an interest in filming then bring them along! Otherwise, we'll go for the usual rota.

Finally, this may well turn in to a trans-Atlantic festival of inflatability with our US East Coast mat-surfing brethren looking to synchronize a meet of their own. A combo-video would be a nice anniversary gift to ourselves wouldn't it!

Knowing my luck it probably will be .

Very early indications suggest we might be looking at north facing spots such as Hayle Rivermouth, Porthtowan or Crantock.

That will change I'm sure.

I'm pretty keen on a wood only session in the avo if anyone fancies joining me.

Right now Sat 26th looks like a small, clean wave early on. Looks like we'll probably have to get on it sharpish though!

We'll keep an eye/updating as we go.

Saturday is definitely looking like the day now. Dropping swell so an early start is a MUST. Winds look brisk but certainly manageable.

I've had a number of people PM, email, text, YouSendIt, etc but if you're coming can you PLEEEEEEASE post it HERE ASAP so that we can confirm both numbers and where people are coming from (ie. if everyone is coming from Yorkshire then Gwenver might not be the best bet). We said West Cornwall but might be best moving up a bit as I know two Westies have pulled out.

I'll be there - I'm getting a lift with Bob. Embarrassingly, I'm still yet to get wet since the last mat meet (and I wasn't pretty back then)!!

How do people feel about "proper" early? The reason I ask is that this swell is fading quickly and high tide is at an inconvenient 8.30am down west and 9am in North Cornwall. That gives us three options:

1) Hook up at about 0530 at Mawgan Porth

2) Hook up at 9 at Hayle round-a-bout and get to Gwenver for the dropping tide.

3) Hook up at 11 for a spot up from Polzeath.

I'm aware that people are driving but my personal choice would be Gwenver. The North Cornwall spot isn't fully secret but might be a little sensitive to 10+ matters turning up as it only has 2 peaks and will be the only real option in the area.

Thoughts ASAP please.

Also, to celebrate our 10th anniversary I'll be knocking 10% off mats and fins bought on the day (rounded to the nearest £1).

Please let me know in advance as I don't want to bring the lot. I have one of each model of mat gripped up so let me know by Wednesday morning to guarantee getting one.
